At Adventure Travel West, we believe in giving back to the places that give so much to us. Our commitment to regenerative travel is simple: we aim to leave the natural environments and communities we visit better than we found them.

Regeneration goes beyond sustainability. It means actively improving the health of ecosystems, strengthening local communities, and ensuring that future generations can continue to enjoy the landscapes we love to explore.

Our goal is to integrate regenerative projects across all of our operations by 2030, supported through our partnership with the World Expeditions Foundation (WEF) – the not-for-profit arm of our broader travel community.

With the support of travellers like you, WEF funds initiatives that restore natural environments, support Indigenous-led conservation, and empower community-driven solutions in the regions we operate – including right here in the American West and Alaska.

The World Expeditions Foundation operates with a clear commitment: 100% of donations go directly to the projects. There are no admin fees – all board members volunteer their time and financial management is handled in-house.

Dominica: Preserve the Indigenous Kalinago Culture and Language

Many aspects of Kalinago heritage and culture including language have been lost. Most young Kalinago do not know the original indigenous language and much of their culture. This project is raising funds to print 200 copies of a book by Natari Adaiah Sanford, a young girl from the indigenous community of the Kalinago Territory in the Commonwealth of Dominica. They can then be made available for use in schools within the Kalinago Territory and elsewhere in Dominica.

Peru: Huilloc Smoke-Free Stoves Peru: Huilloc Smoke-Free Stoves

There are 114 households in Huilloc still using open fire cookstoves. These households rely rudimentary open fire cook stoves to prepare meals. These cook stoves produce a thick smoke that hangs in the air, trapped within the confines of small kitchens. Since 2018, the World Expeditions Foundation has replaced over 80 cookstoves in Huilloc, benefitting over 300 family members. The aim is to replace all remaining open fire cook stoves with the smoke-free cookstove alternative.

Portugal: Create a Marine Protected Area in the Azores

The Azores are a hotspot for 25 cetacean species and form a critical habitat for resident Risso’s dolphins. Climate change seems to affect the behavior of this rare species of dolphin. To understand these effects better, there is a need for satellite tags to be able to track the animals. More knowledge will lead to proposals for better protection. This project will help fund the associated transmissions costs for 6 months.

Nepal: Train Female Farmers in Sustainable Farming Practice

Farms in Nepal are highly vulnerable to climate change due to climate variability and global fertiliser shortages. This regenerative project supports the Trans-Himalayan Environment and Livelihood Program (T-HELP). The aim is to provide 15 farmers with training at a 2-day vermicomposting and bio-pesticide workshop. Each farmer will be provided with a vermicomposting and bio-pesticide set up kit.

Australia: Indigenous Literacy Project

In remote Communities across Australia there is often no infrastructure such as libraries or bookstores. Access to reading material is extremely limited and this impacts the achievements of Indigenous children. The aim of this project is to fund 800 culturally relevant books into the hands of school children in remote Indigenous Communities across Australia.

Tanzania: Community Based Tourism

This project will benefit the women of Kimushuku village, located on the main road between Kilimanjaro and Serengeti and Ngorogoro Crater. The aim is to empower local female farmers with knowledge and skills to increase their contribution to the local hospitality and tourism value chain. The community farm excursions will share the women’s lives in the Chagga communities and demonstrate how the Wamboma Co-op in the has enabled them to widen their skills and horizons.
